Detecting, Confronting, and Replacing Misconceptions in Elementary Science is designed to help teachers discover and work with students to reframe their thinking about specific science concepts. Each of twelve misconceptions includes three parts with the following goals.
- A Detect activity uncovers the existence of any potential student misconceptions.
- A Confront activity creates cognitive dissonance between what is believed and what is correct. This forces learners to evaluate their thinking.
- A Replace activity offers strategies that engage all students to solidify new thinking.
